Cut them in fives
Remember the die in the first problem: six pebbles in a shape you know, seen at once without counting. So make the marks in small groups.
On a stick, cut four notches and then a fifth across them. With pebbles, lay each five out like the five on a die. Which one has more? There are 8 rounds, at the same amounts as the hard rounds of the last step.
